There's an app for that...
A simplified version of Scratch that utilised the drag and drop elements of an iPad and adds a few nice features of its own. I personally love the fact you can create characters with your friends (or even your own) face on them, it's so cool! (I made a guide, look below! and you can click the logo to find out more about Scratch Jr from their website.
Scratch Jr is the perfect introduction to Scratch and begins to stretch the children's concepts and understanding of sequencing, loops and inputs and outputs, in a very intuitive way.
Year 3 tried a few things with it last year and found that saving and accessing work was tricky, and using Dropbox was a challenge. This would become much easier if every child had their own iPad and we were't rotating between groups, so maybe in the future we can pick it up again and really make some progress! The video below tells you a little more about it, and what the children could do.
